October is under way and September already seems so far in the past. As I looked back on all of the wonderful photos that I took during September I couldn’t help but realize just how great the normal life of a normal girl can be.
I’m so grateful for all of the normal bits from September:
- One little gecko gets in the house and I’m packing my bags and heading for the door! Luckily, I came to my senses at the last moment (partially influenced by the threat of loosing my deposit because I abandoned my apartment…but for good reason, those little buggers are creepy) and decided to catch and release the little guy back into his natural habitat. It was only later that I discovered he is referred to as a “house gecko” and by removing him and placing him back outside, I inadvertently destroyed an ecosystem. Human destruction – 1, Nature – 0
- Storms in the distance always make the most beautiful pink sunsets.
- Crackers topped with apple, cheese and honey…all shared with a delightful group of friends and family!
- The last of the in-season peaches…mmmm. I’m missing them already.
- The beacon of home. This sign is like a big, cozy blanket welcoming me back to the city.
- “WE ARE OUT OF HAY!” The problems of life, right?
- The full moon peaking out between the clouds.
- As summer comes to an end, so too will the summer showers, and it will be a little while before I get to see these lovely rainbows that appear in the sky almost daily.
- A lovely evening with a dear friend at a local theater season-opening event.
- A reminder of family, as my passion flower bursts into bloom and reminds me of the man (my great-grandfather a.k.a. pop-pop) who first taught me about these wonderful plants.
- All season I’ve watched a little family of birds call this box their home. It looks like they’ve moved on for now but I expect I’ll see them again next year. ‘Till then, happy flying, dear ones!
- Another lovely storm-induced sunset.
- A fun evening exploring history and science with friends.
- Is there anything better than freshly popped popcorn served in a big ol’ tub?
- Salted, soft pretzel? Yes, please! These always remind me of New York City and walking to Central Park.
- The beet is cut into the shape of a heart, it’s a heartbeet…hehehe.
- Yet another lovely evening with another dear friend and a luxuriously soft chinchilla! Fun animal fact: Humans have 1 hair per follicle, while the chinchilla has 60! That’s what makes them so soft.
- Browsing the stacks with a hot cup of cocoa.
- For those of you who haven’t lived somewhere flat before, you may not have seen this but that dark portion below the clouds is the edge of a rain storm as it moves across the landscape. I remember my amazement the first time I realized that it wasn’t more clouds…it was rain.
- And finally, one of my favorite snacks, fresh purple grapes. I love it when they’re nice and fresh and pop in my mouth as I bite down on them. I’ll keep a bowl full on my counter and munch on them all weekend.
I hope all of you had a wonderful September and are enjoying your October!
.
Aw, a chinchilla, I always wanted to hold one. And, purple grapes are the best, I have some now that will part of my lunch!
The little guy was so incredibly soft and it was so sweet. 🙂
Oh grapes! And chocolate!!!!

Mmm, didn’t think about pairing them with chocolate, I’ll have to give it a try!
I hope your October is equally as rewarding
Thanks! So far…so good. 🙂
I was trying to ignore that furry looking thing on the lower line of photos…a chinchilla you say? Hmmm… I think that their skins look best on them 🙂 Lovely roundup of shots with a great breadth of clarity and colour…again…A TRIUMPH 🙂
You’re so sweet, thank you for the compliment 🙂
Katie, do you buy organic grapes or do you eat conventional ones? Lately I’ve heard a lot about huge pesticide residue in grapes so I don’t know anymore 🙁 I love grapes but I don’t have access to any organic grapes so I’m not sure what to do. Should I try just to leave them in cold water for some time?
There are a couple of fruits that I try really hard to only buy organic and my purple grapes are one of them. I also heard that they are one of the worst for pesticides. There are some vegetable washes that can help remove some of the residue, I’ll use that in some cool water when I can’t find the organic ones and I HAVE to have grapes. 🙂 Glad to hear that I’m not the only one concerned about such things!
No, you are definitely not the only one 🙂 I also have my own list for things that I buy organic only and (right now) those are eggs, coffee, tea, cacao and chocolate, as well as milk and dairy products – whenever I can find them. I also try to get eco bananas but those are hard to find here in Poland (as is the case with most of fresh fruit, veggies and dairy) so I just go with non-eco ones for as long as they are not from the evil corps like Del Monte, Chiquita or Dole. But I would like to know more about what you buy organic only – really don’t want to eat those pesticides and if I can’t find or can’t afford those things, then I will at least try to rinse them better with the special wash.
Yeah, the organic bananas are often hard for me to find too. It does make me feel a little better that they are often on the list of foods that contain the least amount of leftover pesticides (I imagine that it is due to the peel being so thick, many fruits with thick peels and rinds are often on the “low” lists). Some of the fruits that I try to buy organic are apples, blueberries (and almost all other berries too), peaches (pretty much any stone fruit) and of course, grapes. I also work hard to make sure my dairy products (and eggs!) are organic…some of that stuff is just too scary to take a chance. I know not everyone feels that way but I can’t help it! 🙂
Grapes yum! The perfect snack for reflecting on Sept. (yes, one of those fruits best to buy organic ones if you can…but must a have!)
I’m glad so many other people seem to like the grapes too! My grocery store only has soggy grapes lately (not delicious) so October may be brought to you by a different fruit choice. 🙂
I always enjoy your pictures, they’re great! 🙂 what camera do you use?
And those juices look so tastyy!!
Aww, thank you. I use a little point-and-shoot that I bought several years ago. It is a Canon ELPH Powershot.
